Mission

Horizon Prosthetics was established in January of 2007 by Mandy J. Myers, CP, CFm. In late 2006, after working in Colorado Springs for just over a year, Mandy realized there was a high demand for a specialized prosthetic care center. Our mission is to provide advanced prosthetic services in a compassionate and positive environment.

While completing her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, Mandy was introduced to the prosthetics industry by a family friend. Mandy traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada to shadow a Prosthetist named Robert Brooks, CPO and after a few short hours she immediately knew this was the career for her. Mandy’s official prosthetics training began at Scott Sabolich Prosthetics & Research Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. There she trained under direction of Scott Sabolich, CP, LP and Jay Martin, CP, LP learning the principles of prosthetic design and the importance of one-on-one patient care. After completing her engineering education, Mandy attended California State Dominguez Hills Prosthetic Certification program in Aliso Viejo, California. Her residency was completed in Phoenix, Arizona under the direction of Randy West, CP. While working in Arizona, Mandy also had the privilege of working with Jack Ullendahl, CP and Upper Extremity Specialist on several unique prosthetic cases. Mandy and her husband moved to Colorado Springs in the fall of 2005 and immediately knew this was home.

Mandy was recently certified by Otto Bock Healthcare to fit the Helix3D Hip Joint System, a revolutionary prosthetic hip joint which has 3-dimensional motion with hydraulic control. This Hip Joint System is available for hip distarticulation and hemipelvectomy clients. Mandy J. Myers is the only Colorado Prosthetist qualified to fit the Helix3D Hip Joint System. After earning his prosthetics degree, Joel completed his prosthetics residency in Colorado Springs. He spent 3-1/2 years at the world renowned Scott Sabolich Prosthetics and Research in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, seeing patients sometimes classified as ‘hard-to-fit’. While at Sabolich, Joel had the opportunity to work with several upper extremity prosthetic clients and is certified to fit the Otto Bock DynamicArm. Taking a sabbatical from patient care in 2007, he spent two years conducting prosthetic research in Oklahoma City: the first year with Martin Bionics, before it merged with Orthocare Innovations. He has been certified by the American Board of Certification in Prosthetics and Orthotics for 5 years and has been practicing for 7 years.

Joel joined Horizon Prosthetics in October of 2009 and is a wonderful addition to the practice. He is a native of Colorado and is glad to be back ‘home’. Joel is the only Colorado Prosthetist qualified to fit the DynamicArm and the only Colorado Springs Prosthetist qualified to fit the Harmony® Elevated Vacuum System.
